My Love/Hate Affair With The Big Fig Mattress
My thoughts after sleeping on it for nearly a month
A few months ago I was offered the opportunity to try out the Big Fig mattress. If you’re not familiar with the brand, Big Fig is designed for people with, well, bigger figures. Hence the cute name. At the time, my husband and I were sleeping on an almost four year-old Wayfair mattress that we paid astonishingly little for and found tremendously comfortable. We bought that mattress after an ill-fated and miserable (for me) two weeks with a Purple mattress that cost considerably more. We returned that one, taking advantage of their sleep guarantee.
We had been really happy with our Wayfair mattress, however, as one might expect of a king sized mattress that cost around $400, after nearly four years, it was starting to wear out — at least from my perspective. I noticed I was waking up in more pain than usual (I have fibromyalgia, so some pain is to be expected). The mattress still felt comfortable, but I could tell I just wasn’t getting the support from it that my body needed. I had also been waking up drenched in sweat, something I blamed primarily on perimenopause and wasn’t convinced was mattress related.
